WHAT IS PAYROLL?
Payroll is the process of paying your employees wages and making a record of the relevant information used to pay that employee over a certain period of time.
When your business starts to grow, you will eventually take on staff, and with those employees comes extra responsibility. You must ensure you deduct the relevant liabilities such as Tax and National Insurance so that your employees are paid the correct amounts.
WHY DO I NEED A PAYROLL?
Running a payroll requires you to record the amounts you're paying your employees and make liable deductions, without a payroll you may not be paying your staff correctly, which means they could lose out on money or be faced with an unexpected tax bill at the end of the tax year.
Not to mention that if you fail to deliver your payroll on time and accurately, it can result in penalties for your business.
In short, payroll is essential to any business that employers workers. By law, you are required to report this information to HMRC by:
Calculating how much each employee is to be paid
Report any employee details to HMRC
Calculate if any liabilities should be deducted
